Company Sentenced After Employee Suffers Serious Injuries To Face

A manufacturing company and the organisation’s director were sentenced with various fines after an employee was dragged into a rotating drive shaft.

The employee was working in a production line when her hair got caught in the rotating shaft, resulting in the loss of her scalp, ears and one of her thumbs. Further investigation revealed that the production line lacked adequate safety guards. Multiple return visits found that the organisation failed to address these concerns, and the company director was aware.

The organisation and company director received the following fines:


  • The organisation was fined £466,666 and ordered to pay costs of £7,475.90 and a victim surcharge of £170.
  • The director was fined £10,800 and ordered to pay £43,241 in costs and a £170 victim surcharge.
